The Sheriff's Department was not willing to discuss the new agreement, which comes after it cited its stark deficiencies identified by internal controls

Tucked inside a lengthy declaration filed by one of the attorneys suing to impose reforms in San Diego County jails is a notice that the Sheriff’s Department has found another firm to provide healthcare services to the men and women in its custody. The disclosure, which names Correctional Healthcare Partners as the new provider, comes in paragraph 15 of a San Diego federal court filing that stretches over 100 pages.

Earlier evidence provided in the case has included sworn testimony from jailed men and women who described having wheelchairs taken from them, being assigned upper bunks they could not access and being denied sign-language interpreters, among other allegations. The April 24 motion also seeks to compel Martinez to sit for a deposition, something it says she and county lawyers have so far resisted.
