A group of WA teenagers become mental health leaders within their community amid stark self-harm and suicide rates in WA's far north.

The teens have learnt how to support others struggling with poor mental health while attending "Camp Hero" south of Perth.Mental health charity, zero2hero, will continue to run mental health workshops across the Kimberley.

Organised by youth mental health organisation zero2hero, the teenagers learned how to respond to someone struggling with poor mental health amid "Even though I've been semi-confident with what I've said, being on camp made me realise there was a lot more that I could have said or I could have done in leading them in the right direction."Scarlett said external pressures including school, friendship troubles, and social media played a big part in the wellbeing of young people."Everyone's life story is different.

"That's due to several complexities of issues, but in particular the lack of services available, the lack of help available and, in our case, the lack of education and support available for young people to learn what they need to support themselves, and then also support their friends."Ms Harrison said the leadership camps were a critical part of the solution, as more young people turned to each other for help instead of their parents or adult caregivers.
