Oprah reflects on the lasting lessons Japan taught her.

Oprah Winfrey plans to “dismantle the current diet culture” beginning with an upcoming special in partnership with WeightWatchers. Making The Shift: A New Way to Think About Weight will air on WeightWatchers’ YouTube May 9 at 6 p.m. EST.The star opens up about weight loss and shame. Last year, Oprah Winfrey said that she’s “absolutely done with shaming” people who take weight loss drugs after revealing that she herself uses them to avoid “yo-yo dieting.

” The statement adds that “the powerful discussion will unpack the multifaceted, preconceived notions we have about weight,” including “how we can reframe harmful narratives surrounding our weight and our bodies.”“As we reconcile the shame stories we have all experienced, I’m on a mission to keep this conversation going and help us better understand the complexity of weight health and how we can use the science and what we know now to enhance our lives,” Winfrey said in the statement.
