Ms Hallenga received national awards for her work raising awareness of breast cancer Kris Hallenga, the founder of leading breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!, has died after 15 years of living with the disease. Hallenga, who died aged 38, started to raise awarneness of the illness after being diagnosed with it at the age of 23. Working alongside her sister Maren, she went on to win national accolades for her pioneering work encouraging young people to regularly check their breasts.
’ In 2017, Kris stepped down as CoppaFeel! CEO to write her bestselling memoir, ‘Glittering a Turd: How surviving the unsurvivable taught me to live’. A theme she came back to time and time again was the importance of celebrating life joyously even in the face of a terminal illness. Last year, shaken by the death of a close friend, that drive crystallised in the idea of a ‘living funeral’ – which Kris would first test out on herself.
