The totals exceed early researcher estimates, especially for children in the federal health insurance program

As part of Medicaid eligibility redetermination, states are required to first try and renew recipients through what’s known as an “ex parte” process, or using already available data sources, like state wage databases, to access ongoing eligibility. Only 10% of Texans who retained Medicaid coverage as of May 1 were renewed through ex parte processes, according to

States, including Texas, that prioritized processing people who were most likely to be ineligible for Medicaid had higher drop rates. The number of federal waivers a state signed up for also correlated with disenrollment numbers.
