Rageh Omaar has seemingly been targeted by a cruel social media hoax, with an unverified Instagram account using the ITV News At Ten anchor's likeness and name.

ITV News At Ten star Rageh Omaar became the target of a distasteful social media prank following his recent health issues.

"Some happy news about me," read the post showcasing a baby scan image. "As shocked as I am I'm happy to announce me and my wife are having baby number 4. We can't wait to meet you. The happy news in all this. Daddy has a reason to get better." Concerns were raised by viewers who noticed the presenter slurring his words and his left eye drooping during the live broadcast. A nurse watching at home was alarmed enough to contact ITV executives, urging immediate medical intervention for Omaar.

They continued: "It is true that they were trying to get him to come off air but someone needs to be able overrule the presenters when there is a medical emergency. The worry is that because he refused to get out of the chair and is taking responsibility for the situation himself, nothing will be done. That's why people are upset."

ITV has refuted claims that it was aware of Omaar's health issues prior to his concerning appearance. Following the broadcast, the star expressed his gratitude in a touching message: "I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and good wishes, especially all the medical staff, all my wonderful colleagues at ITV News, and our viewers who expressed concern", he said.
