WEIGHT loss jabs might increase the risk of birth defects and miscarriage if used by women trying to get pregnant, experts have warned. However, British scientists have warned these jabs could cause birth defects and should not be taken within two months of trying to conceive. But semaglutide has never been tested on pregnant women, so we don't know how it would affect them or their babies.

"This will help us to address the needs of women with obesity who want to have babies so that we can improve their health, help them to have a safe pregnancy and deliver healthy children." Dr Nerys Astbury, nutrition scientist and senior researcher in diet and obesity at the University of Oxford, said it was “plausible” semaglutide injections, by reducing people’s weight, could help improve fertility.
