PTMs regulate a wide range of cellular processes, such as disease.

PAD4, for example, has been seen in the blood of patients with breast, colon, lung, ovarian, and prostate cancers.7,8 The data suggests that citrullinated proteins could have significant diagnostic value in cancer.
MS can analyze citrullination utilizing a range of different techniques that are dependent on the sample and desired outcome. Typically, bottom-up proteomics with tandem MS directly identifies citrullinated proteins. This technique is quite sensitive but needs highly trained technicians, several processing steps that can result in errors, and an expensive high-resolution mass spectrometer.
A total of 844 autoantibodies were discovered, representing one of the biggest lists of autoantigens associated with RA. This suggests there could be space for additional stratification of RA patients and that conventional methods could misdiagnose anti-CCP negative patients. Sengenics’ unique citrullination assay alters proteins on i-Ome® Discovery and Pan-Autoimmune Autoantigen Panel arrays, featuring up to 1800 proteins.
