Despite the deployment of specialised engineers from the South African National Defence Force,Engineers have been hard at work since last year trying to repair the Sebokeng Wastewater treatment plant.
The South African Human Rights Commission's Mohamed Ameermia says the contamination of the Vaal river must be addressed urgently. "There are 19 million people down stream that are basically dependant, if something has to go wrong there is going to be a cholera outbreak which is then going to compound the problem beyond what we are seeing now", said Ameermia.
