A preliminary LA County budget totals about $45.4 billion; that’s $1.4 billion less than last year’s final budget.

Los Angeles County CEO Fesia Davenport. She introduced the staff recommended FY 2025 budget on Monday, April 22, 2024. The Board of Supervisors will get a look at the preliminary budget at its meeting on Tuesday, April. 23, 2024. A budget hearing is slated for May 15, 2024 with more deliberations and possible adoption on June 24. Final adoption is expected in October.

“These additional funds are needed to fund substantial increases in wages and benefits for the county’s workforce,” reported Davenport. “We cannot do it alone. Local cities must do their part,” Davenport said during a virtual briefing to the press on Monday. The county received $51 million from Gov. Gavin Newsom to address homeless encampments, she said.

Other departments adding positions in the budget include Department of Public Social Services ; Department of Public Health ; and Department of Children and Family Services . • Allocates $7.5 million in Tobacco Settlement funding to Department of Public Health to address the rise in sexual transmitted infections.
