Huw Edwards resigns from BBC on 'medical advice'

Huw Edwards resigned from the BBC on Monday, citing "medical advice", the corporation said. The newsreader has not been seen on air since July last year, following reports that he paid a young person for sexual images.

"The BBC has accepted his resignation, which it believes will allow all parties to move forward. We don't believe it appropriate to comment further." Following the revelations in July, Huw's wife, Vicky Flind, a TV producer who has worked on BBC’s This Week politics show and Robert Peston’s ITV programme, Peston, said in a statement to the PA news agency: “Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years.
