PHE director Dr Jenifer Smith said: “Survival rates and quality of life for people following such major surgery can often be poor.Diabetes raises the risk of serious complications including nerve damage and poor circulation which can lead to amputations.GPs have been told to enrol 200,000 people a year on to the NHS’ Diabetes Prevention Programme, which is now being expanded.
