Democratic party activists are turning their backs on market-based solutions to social problems before those solutions have even had a chance, writes greg_ip

President Trump’s new push to repeal Obamacare isn’t a big surprise: Republicans have long sought to scrap the program as an unwarranted intrusion into the private market.

More surprising is how many Democrats want to ditch Obamacare as well, because it doesn’t intrude in the market enough. Many contenders for the party’s 2020 presidential nomination and a sizable share of their voters back “Medicare for all,” which would replace most private insurance with a single government-run plan.

greg_ip I'm a dem and I love capitolism and trading stocks. I also wish we didnt have homeless people every where

greg_ip You expect good judgement from democRats....ha ha ha...

greg_ip The 'market' concept doesn't work with health care. You go to the nearest hospital in an emergency; you don't shop around for the one with the best price. These solutions aren't theoretical—most of the developed world uses them and they're far more efficient than our system.

greg_ip How about you try it in California first, then let us know how it turns out. Of course no assistance from the remaining 49 States, but we'll be watching.

greg_ip Get a job

greg_ip Okay. Where's the market solution for healthcare that doesn't suck? Or the market solution to combat climate change? I'm waiting.

greg_ip The establishment narrative is so tired & becomes less and less effective each & every day. The establishment had 'their chance' for decades to no avail. MSM Politicians Lobbyists Elites Corps - none are trusted by the woke. Vote Progressive it is our only hope.

greg_ip This was written by either a lazy economist or someone who has never taken an econmics class........

greg_ip What? Corporate executives have refused to share any of their tax break $ with the American people. Where are the pay increases, child care support, insurance, retirement plans? And still they move overseas. You want Dems to watch while Rome burns?

greg_ip Republican party activists are destroying public based solutions to social problems long after they have been shown to be extremely effective.

greg_ip Except for the last 40 years, market-based solutions haven’t had a chance

greg_ip . . America needs 40% more doctors, 50% more hospital beds and tight regulations on drug pricing to begin to make the system work in a free market. Absent that, no system will fix the broken mess run by oligachs.

greg_ip Sick bunch!

greg_ip How do you delete someone else's newspaper?

greg_ip All I know is that obamacare can't be good for the economy and the consumer

greg_ip Yes, the market solutions that haven’t been given a chance.

greg_ip They don't work. I'm 35 and we've 'been giving them a chance' for my entire life

greg_ip Lolz. It works for a few not for the many.

greg_ip Democrats elites do not care about people. They manipulate people.

greg_ip Probably too complicated for most Dems to understand.

greg_ip Free market has failed. See education, housing, healthcare, and owned politicians for examples. Virtue signal all you want, but the day of the ultra-capitalist are coming to a close.

greg_ip angry bernie is coming back
