The 2019 federal budget showed that the government will collect $17 billion in tobacco taxes this year.

Outsiders co-host Rita Panahi says if the government wanted to dramatically reduce smoking and the cancer-inducing harm it does, they would ban cigarettes. Ms Panahi says she feels for smokers, as it’s an expensive burden, and laments the fact that Australia does not permit e-cigarettes, which she says is less harmful.
