Cancer Screening News

Prevention,Detection,Awareness

President Biden declared April as National Cancer Prevention and Early Detection month.

“Early detection can save lives, I’ve seen it many times in my career," said Jamie Anderson a mammography technologist at NEA Baptist.

Detection and prevention are two important and difficult words in the medical world, especially when it comes to cancer. Northeast Arkansas News was able to speak with Jamie Anderson, a mammography technologist from NEA Baptist, about early detection in general as well as in breast cancer. “Early detection is your best bet for breast cancer. The earlier that you find a breast cancer, the better you are to treat it," said Anderson.

NEA Baptist unveiled a mobile health unit in December that aims to help patients outside of the hospitals area. The goal of this is to go out to communities that only have access to primary care and not specialists for things like mammograms. Anderson also drives the unit and said, “Our mobile health unit that we have here at NEA Baptist will be assisting patients with getting their yearly screening mammograms”.

Aside from annual checkups, screenings, and self exams, advice from any medical professional we speak with is the same, if something seems wrong, tell someone. “Any lumps, bumps that are abnormal, please bring that to the attention of their primary care physician”.
