Blood Lead Testing News

California,Cao Bôi Trĩ Cây Thầu Dầu,Health Officials

Health officials in California said a woman died from using a brand of hemorrhoid ointment from Vietnam that contained lead.

Health officials said the cream is called Cao Bôi Tr Cây Thầu Dầu and warned people not to buy or use it.

"Due to the risk of lead poisoning, the OC Health Care Agency urges users of the Vietnamese hemorrhoid ointment called Cao Bôi Tr Cây Thầu Dầu to immediately stop using the ointment and to get their blood tested for lead," according to a news release. Testing determined the ointment contained 4% lead, which health officials is "a highly dangerous" amount."The woman purchased the ointment on Facebook, and a relative in Vietnam mailed it to her in the U.S.," the California Department of Public Health said in a separate news release. "It is unclear if people can directly buy this ointment in the U.S.

Blood lead testing is the best method for identifying lead exposure," the California Department of Public Health said. "Because other household members could have come into contact with the ointment, all household members should have their blood lead tested. Children are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning. "

The California Department of Public Health said symptoms of lead poisoning vary but added exposure to any amount of lead is harmful.
