Thousands of parents are finding out the hard way that their children no longer have health insurance.

“I was horrified,” she said, “because I knew exactly what was going to happen next.”

Heather Hantz's son Harrison, 6, a Tennessee boy with autism, soaks in a hydrotherapy pool at Alliance Physical Therapy in Cleveland, Tenn. Harrison is one of about 128,000 kids purged from TennCare or CoverKids over a two-year span, losing access to therapies like this one. His coverage was ultimately reinstated after about four months.

After being questioned by The Tennessean, TennCare officials took this recent data offline and insisted it was incorrect, saying there had been no historic cuts in February. New enrollment data for February has not yet been made public. The Tennessean published all the raw data compiled for this story. See it for yourself. It was about one year ago when two worried grandparents rushed into Sewanee Pediatrics, a small doctor's office an hour outside of Chattanooga.

Scenes like this are a result of the disenrollments from TennCare, which some say has not done enough to inform families across the state their insurance has lapsed. Evans, a longtime pediatrician with a majority of patients on TennCare, said at least once a week a family discovers it has lost coverage while in her clinic, then must make a tough decision whether to pay for care out of pocket.

Just a reminder that we spend twice as much per person for healthcare as other developed countries.

A huge part of the issue is the deception by people to gain access and no check system to ensure those receiving are deserving. I live here and see it daily. Gold everywhere, luxury car, big name purses, iPhones, food stamps and Tncare. It’s too common here.

janet_yackle Reminder they did not fund the CHIPS program. because they don't give a flying fuck about other peoples children.

Straight winning America!!

Medicaid is NOT insurance. Using the word “insurance” for a lousy federal entitlement program is why people don’t trust the media.

Maybe their parents should get off their lazy asses and go get a job that provides health insurance I bet they all have fancy cell phones and smoke brand name cigarettes and drink brand named beer

Why does this kid look like he tried the Kylie Jenner lip challenge?
