A pair of married Nottinghamshire GPs are set to retire later this year marking the end of almost 30 years of running their medical practice. Dr Tariq Hama and wife Dr Zahida Hama started the Hama Medical Centre in Kimberley at a converted corner store in 1995.
Tariq, who plans to retire at the start of June, said: "There was a waiting room for about 10 people and a reception, but we used no computers just paper-held records. We had to fight tooth and nail with the local authorities to get planning permission to build a proper medical centre on the site."In April 1997, the current medical practice on Nottingham Road was commissioned.
"Over the years we have seen those children grow up, get married, have their own children. We have seen generations go through that phase. There was very much a community spirit, it was how we ran the place." Zahida added: "We are truly grateful to our patients for the love and respect they have shown over the years. We are also grateful to the staff who have been committed and have shared our view of providing the best healthcare possible to patients."
