A team of researchers from the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, Bangor University and University of Southampton, attributed this to an increased risk of breast cancer caused by drinking. The researchers claimed that drinking one bottle of wine per week increases the absolute lifetime risk of cancer to the same extent as smoking 10 cigarettes a week for women.
However, for women this figure was 14 out of 1,000, according to the study published in the journal BioMedCentral public health. “It is well established that heavy drinking is linked to cancer of the mouth, throat, voice box, gullet, bowel, liver and breast,” said Hydes, the lead author of the study.“We hope that by using cigarettes as the comparator we could communicate this message more effectively to help individuals make more informed lifestyle choices.”
Ian Gilmore, chairman of the alcohol health alliance, said even at relatively low levels, alcohol can have serious consequences for our health.
vanguardngr The sample size for this research was not specified...critical to all academic research are large sample siz. Now we don't know population size and years of study to make this research credible. I will take this with lukewarm attitude.
