Private Foundation Funding,Research,Sex And Gender Specific Mental Health Conditions

The Women's Brain Health Initiative (WBHI) has announced a new partnership with Brain Canada and Krembil Foundation, investing $3.3 million in research to address sex and gender gaps in Canadian brain health. The funding will support three Canadian researchers and their teams in studying mental health treatments for women.

More than $3 million in private foundation funding was announced April 3 for research into sex and gender specific mental health conditions in women.

Lynn Posluns, president and CEO of the Women's Brain Health Initiative said the research will improve the understanding of mental health treatments. Each researcher will receive $1.1 million from Brain Canada's Basics of Better Mental Health Program. Their research will focus on investigating mental health conditions including depression, anxiety and postpartum depression, with a significant emphasis on sex-specific factors or differences.

"I am beyond thrilled with this grant funded in part by the WBHI, supporting our research in postpartum depression," said Dr. Galea.
