The American Cancer Society on Thursday published its new report on global cancer statistics.

But we risk even more cancer cases if we, as a society, don’t get serious about healthy lifestyle habits, warned Dr. Ahmedin Jemal, senior vice president of surveillance and health equity science at ACS. A healthy diet, physical activity, limiting sun exposure, and avoiding heavy alcohol consumption all make a difference.“Of course, we cannot completely avoid cancer,” Jemal said. “But ... we can substantially reduce the risk of cancer by adopting a healthy behavior.”

Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide, with almost 2.5 million cases.The most common cancers in women are breast, lung, colorectal and cervical.
