Breast cancer patients will soon save up to $1500 for MRI scans, regardless of which major party wins the federal election | Kaubo

Breast cancer patients will soon save up to $1500 for MRI scans, regardless of which major party wins the federal election.

Health Minister Greg Hunt announced that two new Medicare items for breast MRIs would be available from November 1 to provide more accurate diagnosis and treatment for cancer patients, especially in cases where other imaging is inconclusive or a biopsy is not an option. The government expects about 14,000 patients a year will benefit and will save up to $1500 per scan.

"I want to ensure we support Australians diagnosed with breast cancer by reducing out-of-pocket costs and ensure their diagnosis and treatment is supported by the most contemporary scans," he said.

Some cancer patients get dedicated nurses. Others don't. Is that fair?It only dawns on them once in the chemo ward. Do they have the 'wrong' cancer? I have heard this before, from ladies especially, who have cancer other than breast. Whilst not taking away from the magnificent work of breast care charities, it is a shame that Government will not chip in and make care for all cancer patients equal. They only get there if the Chemo can help them. It’s like the way autism organisations only give a shit about high functioning autistics and their job and educational prospects and ignore the unable to speak, nappy wearing, shit smearing, hand flapping real autistics.
