Scientists believe a skin cream made of sweat protein may provide relief to Lyme disease patients for whom antibiotics don’t work. With each passing hour, 54 new cases of Lyme disease are reported in the US, making it the most frequently occurring vector-borne infection in the country, according to a CDC report.“We have fantastic antibiotics that work for 90 percent of people, but in the 40 years we’ve known about Lyme disease, we have not budged that.

In total, they analyzed the genomic data of over 400,000 people. Their study revealed three molecules. “Three genetic loci were identified at a genome-wide significance level: SCGB1D2, HLA-DQB1, and TLR1,” the study authors note. The animals who received mutated protein developed the infection. However, those injected with normal SCGB1D2 didn’t show any symptoms of Lyme disease.
