The monarch is the first royal to issue a statement on his daughter-in-law's shock news, saying he was"so proud" of her"courage" for publicly speaking about her journey. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry - who have been at odds with Kate and Prince William since relocating to California and speaking out against the royal family in their multi-million dollar projects - also issued a statement to wish the mother-of-three well.

"She has shown tremendous bravery with her statement.
