James Valentine has been flooded by messages from well-wishers, including th after sharing news of his oesophageal cancer diagnosis.
Listeners flooded the text line expressing their love and support for the long-time presenter, who returned to the station's Afternoons program this year after two years hosting Breakfast."I grew up with James on the radio — our extended family Whatsapp chat just exploded yesterday afternoon, almost in grief," Mr Minns told ABC Radio Sydney.
"It involves removing the oesophagus, or most of the oesophagus, and the top part of the stomach, which is probably about a quarter of the stomach," Dr Fenton-Lee said."We're going to then bring your stomach up — we actually shape it so that it's a tubular structure and we bring it up and join it into your neck, so we replace your oesophagus with your stomach.""It's not a large volume procedure, especially in Australia," he said.
A St Vincent's Hospital nurse and long-time listener texted in to tell Valentine he was in excellent hands with "Dr Doug" and the team.
