A Belfast midwife has issued a vital message for expectant mums or women who want to start a family to mark the 40th anniversary of No Smoking Day on Wednesday, by urging them to stub out cigarettes.
The Maternity Stop Smoking Service, which is funded by the Public Health Agency , is a 12-week support programme that is a combination of specific coping strategies and nicotine replacement therapy. "We know that pregnancy is a teachable moment and the most likely time in a woman’s life that she will ever quit smoking. Women and their partners really have that extra motivation to quit when they are pregnant.
