RTE stalwart Charlie Bird has died after a very public battle with Motor Neurone Disease. The legendary broadcaster shared his heartbreaking battle with the disease since his diagnosis in 2021, recently admitting his health is "in a much worse situation". Charlie stole the hearts of the nation following an appearance on the Late Late Show in 2021 where he told Ryan Tubridy about his life changing condition.

This led to Climb With Charlie, which saw thousands of people climb Croagh Patrick and other mountains around Ireland to raise funds for charity, over 3 million was raised for Motor Neurones association and Pieta House. RTE news announced this morning that he died yesterday following his lengthy battle.
