Bosses of hotel chain Travelodge have been told to consider making improvements to staff training after a man was found dead in his room.
On the night of May 21, 2019, Thomas stayed at a Travelodge in Derby where he took MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, and was found collapsed in his room the following day. Sabyta Kaushal, Assistant Coroner for Derby and Derbyshire, has now issued a Prevention of Future Deaths report to the bosses of Travelodge which requires them to respond within 56 days.
There is no fully trained first aid-trained employee on site at a Travelodge hotel premises for 24 hours of the day; at present there is a fully trained first aid employee on site from only 7am to 7pm. Emergency medical situations could present themselves between after 7pm and 7am and when there is only one Travelodge employee on the premises.
"It may be the case that they have a lack of understanding of the present first aid training. This training is key at night when there is only one member of staff on site at a Travelodge hotel premises."
