Breast Cancer,Cholesterol Levels,Statin Usage

Researchers have found a relationship between serological cholesterol levels, statin usage, and breast cancer mortality. Statin usage may improve survival rates in breast cancer patients, but blood cholesterol levels are often overlooked in trials. The primary cholesterol metabolite, oxysterol 27-hydroxycholesterol, has been associated with tumor development and mortality in females with low estrogen levels.

In a recent study published in JAMA Network Open, researchers investigated the relationship between serological cholesterol levels, statin usage, and breast cancer mortality. The study found that statin usage may enhance survival rates in breast cancer patients, but most trials do not consider blood cholesterol levels. The primary cholesterol metabolite, oxysterol 27-hydroxycholesterol, has been linked to tumor development and mortality in females with low estrogen levels.

Cholesterol is also a precursor for estrogen production, increasing the risk of breast cancer
