A new study reveals that crop fires are responsible for 20 percent of the fine particulate matter in Delhi's air during the post-monsoon period. Diwali celebrations and fireworks worsen the city's air quality. Crop burning also contributes to haze formation and health problems.

The study found that 20 percent of the fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in Delhi during the post-monsoon period originated from crop fires. Diwali festivities and fireworks have further deteriorated the city's air quality.

Black carbon from crop burning contributes to haze formation and health issues. On severe days, crop fires could contribute up to 50-75 percent of PM2.5 in Delhi.
