It's cold and flu season and taking some types of medicine could leave you with a driving ban and a criminal record

The cold weather and the rise of several new illnesses that we really wish we didn't know about means many of us will be trying to fight back with medication over the winter months. Battling a bad cold, flu or coronavirus often means a trip to the chemist or doctor to find something that might make life a little easier.

For serious drug driving offences, you could receive an unlimited fine, and prison time and have your licence endorsed for the next 11 years. If someone is killed and you're under the influence of a drug then you could be jailed for life. The government says you should consult your doctor before you drive if you are taking any of the following medicines:
