Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has charged a county medical examiner investigator for allegedly stealing jewelry from dead people. The district attorney's office alleges Adrian Muñoz stole a gold crucifix necklace from someone who died in South L.A. Muñoz is also accused of taking rare antique coins from another deceased man.
Prosecutors say surveillance footage captured Muñoz placing the jewelry inside his medical bag. A statement from the DA's office said he did not return the item or document it in the property receipt. "Protecting the sanctity of this process is trusted upon us, public servants, to make sure we're serving the public," Gascón said."When that trust is violated, it erodes the credibility of our entire system."
Preference wasn’t the only thing on Colli-Moon’s mind. While the strikes were going on, he got a few offers to work short jobs, but had to turn those down to heal a back injury. “It doesn't feel like a victory in any sense emotionally,” he said. “It is technically going to be financially good for us. I just would have preferred it to be the decision we wanted to make instead of the decision we were forced to make.”
“More and more when I talk to people, the sentiment is that the film industry is our side gig and whatever else we do is the main gig,” Dawkins said. For Riddle to continue his assistant directing work, he needed actors and scripts, which wasn’t completely possible until both strikes ended. And while his family could’ve made it through the year financially, he says many in the industry have been facing challenges.
Cynthia Kershaw is a long-time Screen Actors Guild member. She is considering early retirement after many years of working in TV and film because of the Hollywood strikes.“I'm one of the very fortunate people that had to learn the hard way. The last strike — it was hard,” she said. After months of picketing, the actors' union SAG-AFTRA said it’s finally come to a deal to end the strike with the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers. While full details of the deal have yet to be released, it comes on the heels of the agreement with the Writers Guild of America, which saw increases in residual payments for scribes, more transparency around streaming viewership and guard rails around artificial intelligence.
