The export of beef to China is worth tens of millions to the Irish economy

Irish beef exports to China have been suspended after case of 'mad cow disease' was detected in Ireland.

READ MORE: Catherine Martin criticised for missing key EU gathering of ministers on sustainable tourism Irish beef exports to China only recently resumed in January this year following a three-year suspension after a case of 'atypical BSE' was identified in 2020. The Department said that the discovery of this case exemplifies the "strength of Ireland’s controls and surveillance system" and shows "demonstrable proof that our food and feed safety controls are effective".

"The animal did not enter the food or feed chain and there are no public health risks associated with this occurrence.
