Bertagnolli confirmed as new head of National Institutes of Health

Bertagnolli as the director of the National Institutes of Health, ensuring that America’s flagship biomedical agency will have a permanent leader following a months-long dispute involving a key senator that threatened to derail her nomination.

Sanders allowed Bertagnolli’s nomination to move forward in September after he received a White House commitment “to keep working to lower the price of prescription drugs,” he said in a statement, and the federal health department took actions to rein in future costs of a potential covid-19 treatment.
