Lancashire County Council has been ordered to pay damages and the teacher's lost earnings

Lancashire County Council has been ordered to pay more than £800,000 to a early years specialist who was wrongly sacked as she battled cancer.

Mrs Healey had worked for the local authority since 1995, first as a teacher and then from January 2002 in a role as an early years’ consultant, based in the respondent’s School Improvement Service. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and as a result was off work for throughout all of 2015 as she undertook operations and a strong course of chemotherapy.

She argued this was unfair and should be considered discriminatory. She also made an allegation of disability-related harassment in relation to a comment made at a meeting in 2016 and a further allegation of discrimination relating the management of her return to work process.
