"Do not eat, sell, or serve multiple brands of apple cinnamon fruit pouches. FDA’s investigation is ongoing," stated the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's website over applesauce pouches.The FDA says seven cases of possible lead exposure have been found in five states, including Arkansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri and North Carolina.
Lead is toxic to humans and can affect people of any age or health status. Lead exposure for children can cause developmental delays. The WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches were sold nationally and are available through multiple retailers including Amazon, Dollar Tree, and other online outlets.
Schnucks brand cinnamon-flavored applesauce pouches and variety pack were sold at Schnucks and Eatwell Markets grocery stores.There's an ongoing investigation to determine the source of lead contamination and whether additional products are linked to illnesses.If you think you may have symptoms of lead toxicity after eating recalled fruit pouches, you're asked to call your healthcare provider right away.
