The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said at least 15 people were killed Saturday when a UN school sheltering thousands of displaced Palestinians was hit by an Israeli strike.
“The massacre at the Al-Fakhura school committed by the occupation this morning left 15 martyrs and 70 wounded,” ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told a press conference. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military about hitting the school in Jabalia refugee camp, and AFP was unable to independently confirm the toll.
The health ministry said Saturday at least 9,488 people have been killed across Gaza, the majority civilians, since Israel started pounding the territory on October 7. Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his “fatherly intervention” in the political crisis that rocked the state recently.
More than 20 people have died and over 12,000 others have been forced out of their homes in Ethiopia's Somali region due to flash flooding triggered by torrential rains, the regional government said Saturday.
