The health ministry says the current amount is appropriate as doctors are receiving other allowances, too.

The Malaysian Medical Association had been pushing for a raise in the on-call rates for doctors as it had been the same for a decade.

According to the ministry, it had submitted many applications and appeals to JPA in 2020 and last year but they were all rejected. However, the ministry disputed the rate stated, saying dividing the daily on-call allowance of RM220 by 24 hours was not accurate.
