The mum of a convicted murderer sent knives and other contraband into jail for her son as part of the largest prison smuggling ring ever uncovered.
Shockingly, it was revealed that knives planned to be smuggled into the jail were to be used against prison staff reports the ECHO. A liquid form of the drugs spice was also found in four 500ml Ribena bottles. This haul of drugs alone worth more than £1m, prison experts estimated. A four year investigation found Hatfield was recruited by her inmate lover Joseph Whittingham to play a role in the illegality.
