'It was a very scary time, and when I was diagnosed, it was a shock,' Polin said. Carol says she had a 5-centimeter tumor, which was the size of a golf ball. 'I didn't even know where to turn or what to do. I have walked in 30-mile breast cancer walks for years for my friends and never thought I would be one of the patients,' Polin said.She went through six months of four different types of chemotherapy and a double mastectomy, but in spite of it all, her faith never wavered.
Polin credits her oncologist at Bon Secours and her friends and family when she needed them the most. 'Through support from my friends and my family, my husband. And a lot of prayer. A lot of prayer,' Polin said.In May 2023, she completed her cancer treatment. The Live Strong 12-week program at the YMCA for cancer patients helped her get back to herself.
