Public Health England has been talking about the steps that can be taken to reduce air pollution. There has been relatively little research into how common a phenomenon idling outside schools is.
They found levels of black carbon - a pollutant associated with car exhausts, which has been linked to lung and heart disease - were 36% lower after these"action days" next to a primary school in Wandsworth. The report said that idling at school gates was"a problem across the capital and it was pleasing to see the greatest reduction in concentrations" outside the school.published in 2013, looked at air quality in four schools before and after campaigns to stop vehicles idling.
Overall, I see so many people sitting in idling vehicles whether they are texting, eating takeout, smoking, sleeping or whatever. Also, transit vehicles idling at stations for long lengths of time. Don't people realize that this is all adding to global warming?
If a bus or truck has a Euro 6 engine, then emissions will be virtually zero.
So who will enforce this?
You don't say! CommonSense
Delivery drivers, taxis, coaches driving pensioners to the seaside for the day, they all seem to think its perfectly OK to keep their engines running for longer periods of time just because...
It certainly seems like a waste of money when I walk past a long line of stationary traffic every morning
Probably should look nto the costs of starter motors first
This has been the law in Scandinavian countries for more than a decade. The pollution it creates is enormous and the cost over time to the individual is much higher than they could possibly imagine.

TheOliveLeeds Apparently significantly less polluting than replacing your old car for a new one.
And what about sitting in traffic gridlock?! Book them all.
Common sense says hugely. Technical reports will vary depending on who pays for them.
How dangerous are child buggy’s and push chairs that put a child’s head at almost exhaust level when being pushed around next to vehicles!?! Absolute Madness!!
BBCLondonNews Anyone can change the ceiling numbers for emissions to make it look as though we are breaking them. It's a scare tactic to raise revenue
Queue of 20 taxis waiting to get into Heathrow terminal 5 and most were idling.
I'm going to guess: very damaging. Now let's read this article.
Annoys me when parents sit for ages outside schools with engine running yet moan about the price of fuel! And bus drivers who don't have to pay for fuel.
Can't see buses turning engine off at every stop to be honest AllAboard
Some traffic calming systems don't help either. Cars in low gears having to slow down and accelerate again. I know in some places it's needed but some council planners really haven't thought a lot of them out and just put them in not allowing a free flow of traffic.
A public transit bus.. fine .. It's taking more than 1 person.. 1 less car/ truck
what about idling government brains when lying to the public term after term justsaying this does more damage to health and safety
First time in ten years with chest infection. First year/winter using buses/walking in urban environment. Get a mouthful of diesel fug and know about it! Poor children.
Guess howmany diesel 1/2 ton ( Ford Chevy & Dodge ) & semi trucks are just in SK? all those jerks leave them idling 18/hrs a day in winter.. 2 hours to ' warm it up'.. some leave running ing the Spring / Summer ,also. Not healthy.. Driver-less electric trucks ?
Taxis do this all the time we get one that parks outside the house with engine running as he’s to early to pick up first thing I have asked him more than once to move or turn the engine off
Not as damaging as the shit the BBC spews😖😱
Very!
India too should follow suit. The ideal place to start with is seized vehicles at police stations all over the country
Why are you not asking how much added pollution all the Uber and Lyft cars add? Not to mention traffic
How about trains. They sit at stations for well over 20 mins spewing out fumes. NetworkRailMAN
Moderately less than constantly having to switch off and restart your engine, I’d wager ?! 🤔
