Just days after the Goop founder gamely poked fun at herself and her divisive wellness empire on “Saturday Night Live,” the actress turned entrepreneur was once again the picture of self-deprecation during a “Today” show interview with Savannah Guthrie.
Paltrow started Goop in her kitchen in 2008 as a weekly newsletter, and became one of the first notables promoting wellness, before it became the $4.2 trillion industry it is today. Goop itself has grown into a $250 million empire that’s coming to Netflix this fall with a docuseries in which Paltrow and Goop’s chief content officer, Elise Loehnen, will “utilize experts, doctors, and researchers to examine issues relating to physical and spiritual wellness.
“I think I had a secret dream that it would become what it’s become, but when I started 10 years ago, I had absolutely no idea,” Paltrow told Guthrie. “I had just had a vision, but I had no idea how to get there, like how to execute on it.” ‘I also really love when we write about something or talk about something at Goop, and you know, the internet goes crazy, and then six months later, 12 months later, two years later, you see it kind of being widely adopted into the culture.’ Gwyneth Paltrow Asked about what kind of boss she is to her Goop employees, she responded: “I think that I am an optimistic boss. I am constantly hoping for the highest good for all. Over time I’ve had to learn the more difficult qualities of being a boss.
She’s still clinging tightly to the “batshit crazy” image though. Kudos!
