Man tried to flee during medical checkup after being arrested for having duty-unpaid cigarettes.

When customs officers brought him to the National University Hospital for a medical checkup, Hossain Md Masum decided to make a break for freedom.

On 10 January this year, at about 4.30pm, the 30-year-old construction worker was told by a person known as Raja to do a delivery job for which he would be paid $50. Raja instructed Hossain to retrieve three boxes of duty-unpaid cigarettes from Mandarin Self Storage at Riverside Road. Hours after his arrest, Hossain was brought to the Customs Operation Command where he complained of pain in his left shoulder. The officers decided to send him for a medical checkup.
