A baby red squirrel found “lifeless” amid the maelstrom of last weekend’s devastating floods in Perthshire was rescued by two young boys who spotted him while out on a walk.
They carefully wrapped him in tissues and a plastic bag before calling for help from local welfare group, Missing Pets Perth and Kinross. Head of the group, Katie McCandless, said Stormy – as he was named by volunteers – was thought to be only about eight weeks old. Another Missing Pets volunteer then took Stormy in, having had previous experience caring for and rehabilitating squirrels.“It is the first time we have had a red squirrel in our care, but our volunteer made sure we did everything right by him.Stormy was given a warm bed, fed baby formula through a small syringe then was treated to nuts, broccoli and apples to regain his strength.
