'If you're coming to tell us normal news, that's fine, but if you're coming to tell us there's no lung left and we want to put you on a morphine drip until you die, it should be done by a human being and not a machine,' Catherine Quintana said Friday.

This is just wrong. I can't imagine the heartbreak of delivering end of life news to anyone but that's something that should be done in person. Don't go into medicine if you can't handle delivering bad news.

Absolutely despicable...the family should have been treated with far more respect.

She is now emboldened and I agree. It will get worse with her rhetoric.

That is truly cold

Absolutely heartbreaking! No compassion, no empathy......😔

The future of socialized medicine

In California? Typical. There is not one thing about this that is acceptable. WTF? Catherine Quintana I'm so sorry for you and your family. USA TODAY, do the medical records indicate prior discussions, phone calls or offers of support?

The robot is just like most Western doctors: heartless and programmed to deliver symptoms diagnosis and to prescribe drugs. 🤖

Oh,WOW, this is totally wrong. The world we live in and in the future has lost it’s compassion for each other. This physician, if he’s one, took away this man dignity. Just threw him away like trash. This is the bad side of technology.

I do not understand this at all. The point of the doctor visit is to ask questions and interact. If they are just going to read some statement why bother.

Wow! 'Not all doctors do so in person with empathy.' Yep, got that loud and clear! Are these doctors so full of self-importance that they cannot deign to talk in person to a patient who is dying? Pathetic. I bet if they were paid to do it, they'd show up!

Is that really a robot? Looks more like an iPad on a stick.

Lib docs from 3rd world California. No surprise here. Very sad

DrSpockets Wow!! Just wow!!

Yeah, I'd much rather have the 'prepare to die' come from Dr House. And to think this is the compassionate care we get from the for-profit health care system. AOC DanRiffle SenSanders sfpelosi GaryReberFEJ The march of technology!

Hospital Robot...
