Recruiting health workers and keeping them in the public system among top priorities at meeting with Health Minister Mark Holland

Federal Health Minister Mark Holland rises during Question Period in the House of Commons on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Sept. 25. Mr. Holland was expected to sit down with his provincial and territorial counterparts in Charlottetown to discuss how they're going to grow the health workforce.

Recruiting nurses, physicians and other health workers and keeping them in the public system is among the top priorities of participants in the Charlottetown meeting, which is scheduled to wrap up Thursday. “To be blunt, we were underwhelmed last with the announcement of how much funds were coming to individual provinces and territories,” Ms. Jones said. “So we’re working through how we can incorporate that into programs that we have put in place or that we have announced and are working toward.”funding over 10 years, comprised mostly of a modest increase to the Canada Health Transfer and $25-billion for tailored agreements with each province and territory.
