THE Health Ministry is getting the views of experts from within and outside the ministry on reforming the country’s healthcare system, says Dr Zaliha Mustafa .
The minister said discussions are also being held on the possibility of forming a Healthcare Reform Commission.To a question by Tan Kok Wai on the measures taken to combat the medical brain drain situation due to the departure of specialists from government service, she said the matter is being looked into extensively.
However, Dr Zaliha acknowledged that the disparity in wages in private and government service might also be a factor causing them to leave. “Nevertheless, we will still look into it, carry out engagements and find ways to improve our public healthcare system.” She said the Health White Paper had identified the problems surrounding the healthcare system and outlined the strategies for improvement.
