A university boffin researching the impact of dengue fever in pregnant mums on their baby’s health says global warming is expanding its reach to future generations.
University of Birmingham assistant economic professor, Dr Menezes, says its spread “needs to be taken seriously, and quickly”. “The highest risk of hospitalisation for these children comes in their second year of life, where there is a 76% increase. “We strongly suggest that dengue fever should be considered alongside the TORCH infections to manage and avoid when pregnant, which currently include Toxoplasmosis, Rubella, HIV, syphilis, chicken pox, Zika, and influenza among others.
