Dalya Karezi made videos on topics including paracetamol toxicity, HIV, ovarian cancer, fibroids, testosterone, and foods people should feed their toddlers.

A woman who pretended to be a doctor on social media site TikTok and dispensed health advice while wearing scrubs and a stethoscope has been convicted and ordered to pay more than $13,000 after a magistrate said her offences were “extensive, prolific and pervasive”.

Defence barrister Erasmus Lovell-Jones said his client had an underlying psychological fragility which made it difficult for her to say no in social situations. He said the information she posted on TikTok was gathered from existing sources, and his client had “with an element of self-promotion” engaged in a misguided attempt to make this information more readily available.

Davenport said Karezi used her posts to promote a brand of surgical scrubs, nail polish, and face masks which purported to prevent COVID-19, including one post which was labelled “paid partnership”. The social media accounts have since been deleted.
