Authorities in Yellowstone County say a sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man who fired a gun while officers were trying to arrest him on a warrant from another Montana county. Sheriff Mike Linder says officers went to a residence near Ballantine at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and spoke with the man. At one point, a deputy could see the man had a handgun. Linder says the man walked out of the house and fired his gun in the direction of the deputies. One deputy returned fire. Officers attempted life-saving measures until medical responders arrived, but the man died at the scene. His name has not been released. The two officers were placed on administrative leave.
